Election results

The AGM was held yesterday, some interesting discussion took place regarding the future of the society (that lasted 1h30!) and good questions were posed to the candidates.

The new Exec will be:

President Richard Warbuton (Mulletron)
Treasurer Bruce Tinton (Bruce)
Secretary Simon Hammond (Hamster)
Tech Officer Timothy Retout (Tim)
Gaming Officer Andrew Lee (Fluff_eei)
WUGLUG Liaison Daniel Watkins (Odd_Bloke)
Academic Officer Arun Prasannan (Polar)

Good luck to the new exec, we will have the usual hand-over period and afterwards they shouldn’t hesitate to talk to a previous exec member if there are any problems!

LAN Seating

Hi!

LAN seating plan is at http://www.uwcs.co.uk/society/events/seating/717, for what it’s worth. I’m afraid it’s the same system as last time, and thus totally unsuited for what we’ll be up to: I’m afraid I really don’t know what the table layout will be.

For now, however, can you update yourselves on it into approximately 6 columns of 5 ish, or 5 columns of 6, or some similar re-arrangement, and we’ll see how we go when we do the setup. The bit labelled “door” will be the door closest to the library; there’s another door at the opposite end of that side of the room.

Thanks.

David Buckley, CompSoc Gaming Officer 2006/2007.

LAN date correction

Thousands of apologies etc., but the previous LAN-related email was in fact incorrect.

It had apparently slipped my mind that due to a room booking issue, the LAN is at the end of week 7, that is, Fri 23rd Feb. The event has been corrected on the website.

Signups will still open at noon this Saturday.

Again, apologies for both the change in date, and the late notice for this LAN.

Recent MySQL Problems on Molotov

MySQL should now be fully functioning again if you’ve only been using MyISAM tables (the default). If you’ve been using InnoDB tables, your database should still exist, however you may have to restore data/table layouts from backups. If you don’t have a recent backup or don’t have access to your database, please contact techteam@uwcs.co.uk.

Apologies.

Second LAN of term!

Our second LAN of term is now up on the events page. Note that as we are in a smaller room and we’re not sure of power requirements, signups for this event will be limited to 30 at first. Once we know what the room can take, we may bring them up to 40, but it seems unlikely that we will be able to fit many more.

Signups will open at noon this Saturday, and I strongly suggest you signup ASAP after then – it’s not unknown for 30 places to go in 5 minutes!

If it’s full, don’t worry – you can still sign up as a reserve and if the signups are extended or someone drops out, you’ll be put onto the main list.
