Coventry is upcoming city of culture, we would like to represent our newly merged urban culture and our Indian background by creating a society which not only caters towards “British-Indians” or specific religions, but a society that can reach out to different ethnic backgrounds and bring everyone together. We have ideas and events planned in which we can bring together pre-established societies and work together hold events and sports tournaments etc. However the words Urban Desi does reach out to young students with an Indian heritage and we realise that the religious society hold a divide between people in the Indian society which is why we chose to create a society that doesn’t celebrate religious events and instead celebrates cultural events which will give us a much more broader appeal.
1. Remove the divide between societies and bring students together from different backgrounds and give the opportunity to meet new people, make new friends and try new things.
2. Give students opportunities to have an Indian experience in the Modern day UK.
3. Hold events which can benefit people as well as it giving them enjoyment.
4. Provide and create a community which is a safe place for students of all years to come and feel good and protected, and give a sense of home away from home.
5. Bring together students with different opinions and give them something in common other than religion
