Learning BSL gives you a unique skill, that not only enhances communication skills, but also improves awareness of the D/deaf community, and makes you more conscious of the communication needs of other people.

Sign language is a visual communication method of gestures, body language and facial expressions used by people who are Deaf or have hearing impairments. There are many types across the world but, British Sign Language (BSL) is the most common sign language in the UK, used by around 145,000 people.

It is a great skill to add to your CV; attend three sessions are you will be awarded a British Sign Language Learner badge!

Ways to learn?

Now you know the benefits BSL offers the community, there are two completely free ways you can learn British Sign Language (BSL) whilst you study across the University Group.

BSL Club

Our BSL Club is an online or in-person opportunity to learn BSL, meet new people and develop your signing skills with our amazing BSL Tutors Ruth and Marian.

This is our most popular option as it is open to all students and staff too.

Add+Vantage Modules

We offer Introductory and Intermediate modules to all undergraduate students required to complete an Add+vantage module.
