What does Your Advice Service do?

We offer free, independent and confidential advice, support and representation to all Coventry University Group students.

We can also offer some help and support to prospective students who hold an offer for the University or students who have recently graduated and have an issue relating to their studies (such as a complaint).

What specific advice and support can I get?

We give advice, support and representation on a range of problems. These include, but are not limited to…

  • Anything relating to the University’s Academic regulations and your educational experience:
    • academic appeals
    • academic misconduct
    • complaints (against the University or Your Students’ Union)
    • disciplinaries
    • professional suitability
    • withdrawing from University
  • Housing:
    • emergency accommodation
    • helping students find reputable and safe housing by assessing and recommending providers
    • contract checking
    • housing disputes with landlords or housemates
    • helping you understand your contract and options if you want to leave
    • council tax
  • Finance:
    • University Support Fund
    • financial hardship
    • budgeting
    • student finance issues
    • avoiding and reporting scams

… and more!

We will listen to your issue and provide personalised advice and guidance with options for where you can get support and what steps you may need to take. We can also attend meetings with the University alongside you, support you by proof-reading documents before you send them, contact the University on your behalf and more.

Wait... there's more?

As well as representing individual students to the University wherever necessary (in meetings, by raising an individual issue or supporting you to present a case to the university), we also run campaigns and work with the University as well as external organisations to improve the University experience for all students. Keep an eye out on our webpages to see our latest news and events.

What if I have an issue that the Advice Service can’t help with but I don’t know where else to go?

We have lots of links with University services and external organisations that we can signpost or refer you to for support. If you are ever in doubt of where you can get help, contact us and we will recommend what other services may be best suited to your enquiry.

How do I access help and support?

Complete our Enquiry Form. Once you complete this, it opens a ticket with Your Advice Service. You will receive am email response within 5 working days with personalised support, guidance and recommendations.

We also regularly run drop-ins and events across Coventry University in specific faculty buildings and at CU Coventry campus. You can find any upcoming events and drop-ins here.
