The four Officers at an event in the Courtyard during Welcome

What was your favourite moment during Welcome?

Catherine: My favourite moment during Welcome was the Officer Karaoke night, where we all got to go on stage, sing songs and meet new students!

Bianca: It’s hard to choose a favourite moment. If I had to choose one, it would have to be Officer Karaoke as well. Everybody sang Happy Birthday to me, which was a great surprise. We also had the opportunity to hear you all sing, which was a lot of fun.

Desmond: I was at Scarborough campus and played Bingo for the first time – this was really fun! Also, the SU Global Quiz with the Education team was great.

Chisom: My favourite moment was the Officer Scavenger Hunt! I enjoyed running the basketball ring challenge as the Activities Officer – every student that walks by wants to get involved and have fun!

How have you found the experience of Welcome as an Officer?

Catherine: I’ve really enjoyed Welcome! It’s been great to see students out and about on campus, especially after the last few years have been impacted by COVID-19. We can now interact face-to-face; this year has been lovely! There are more people on campus creating a real buzz.

Bianca: My experience as an Officer has been enjoyable. It’s been great meeting people back on campus! It was so fun!

Desmond: It has been a wonderful experience! It was well organised, well planned out and was lovely to receive student feedback saying that they have really enjoyed it.

Chisom: It has been phenomenal! It’s been an amazing experience; I hope students enjoyed it as much as I did!

What would your top tip be to a new student during Welcome?

Catherine: I would tell a new student to check out our website at yoursu.org to see all of the activities and events you can plan in advance and make sure you’re on campus to get involved.

Bianca: My piece of advice would be to get involved in everything you like the look of or you think may interest you. I really regret not getting so involved in Welcome event when I was a student. I would event recommend giving something new a try; you may have underestimated it and really enjoy it!

Desmond: My top tip would be to be open to new experiences! You should try to get a start on your studies as early as possible, but try to also be open to making new friends and trying new things.

Chisom: Try as much as possible! You can follow the Your SU page on Instagram to find out about all that’s going on, as well as following the updates on the website. You can get all the information you need from these platforms and will give you an insight into all that Your Students’ Union has to offer! Your student journey is always going to be amazing when you’re up to date on what’s going on at Your SU.
