What do you teach here at Coventry (including location)?

I tutor and am also the Course Leader for both Tourism and Hospitality Management and Marketing and PR at CU Coventry, Coventry University.

Tell us more about your courses?

Our Tourism and Hospitality Management degree is a broad, successful, and widely respected degree, students who study this course can benefit from varied career prospects. Tourism and Hospitality is a large expansive industry, benefiting from consistent year-on-year growth in the UK. It supports millions of jobs in England and is worth billions to the UK economy. This course incorporates general business and management principles, so you could progress into the hotel industry, events management, travel operations and many more.

The Marketing and Public Relations (PR) degree aims to equip you with the knowledge, competences and skills that are required to be successful in contemporary marketing and public relations industries. We are recognised by and contain content from the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) and the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM); students will become members of these professional associations for the duration of your course.

When did you win an I Love My Staff Award?

21st April 2022. A lovely evening at Square One.

What did it mean for you, as an academic, to be nominated for an I Love My Staff Award?

I only started being a tutor in 2019 and quickly realised that supporting students to achieve academically, whilst being able to provide some fun along the way with event and trips, is one of the most rewarding jobs I have ever had during my 30+ years in the industry. Winning the I Love my Course Award was the icing on the cake, and it was lovely to be recognised by my students for doing something that I actually love doing anyway - thanks, Your Students’ Union!

Why is it important for students to nominate for this Award?

It is a lovely way for students to feedback in a private way on the positive experience they have had at University. The ‘I love my staff’ campaign provides an opportunity for students to recognise university staff members who have made an outstanding contribution to the student experience. It meant and still means a lot to me, so if you love what your tutor/lecturer does…please nominate them.

Nominations will remain open until Sunday 5 March, so please make sure you nominate by visiting the I Love My Staff Hub on the website.
