The time has come to think about preparing to leave student accommodation, the place that has provided shelter and so many memories. Individual feelings on this milestone may be mixed, but when you make a start on tackling all that packing, one common question often crops up…

How have I managed to collect so much stuff?

It’s amazing all the extra possessions you can accumulate over time, making having to pack away your university life that little bit more overwhelming. You may have to make the difficult decision to leave some things behind. You may wonder what you are going to do with these things.

Your Students Union could have the answer!

Our collection boxes, in partnership with The British Heart Foundation make it easy for you to declutter and donate to make a difference.

What Difference Can I Make?

The British Heart Foundation funds vital research into lifesaving treatments and support for heart and circulatory diseases. This includes more than half of all cardiovascular research in universities and hospitals. Over the last 50 years this funding has helped make breakthroughs that have halved UK death rates from heart and circulatory disease and supported the improvement of treatments that have enabled most babies born with congenital heart disease in the UK to survive until adulthood.

And there’s still much more to do…

78p of every £1 donated to BHF goes directly into this lifechanging research and support. But it’s not just giving money that can help. BHF also excepts donations of preloved items for their chain of widely used charity shops. Donating this way not only saves lives but also helps to save the planet. In 2018, BHF managed to save 14,000 tonnes of clothing from going to landfill thanks to the opportunity to donate secondhand goods.

What can I donate?

British Heart foundation accepts the following, in good reusable condition:

  • Clothes
  • Books
  • Shoes
  • Home wear (small items)
  • Utensils
  • Electronics (small items)
  • Accessories

What can’t I donate?

British Heart Foundation does not accept the following:

  • Duvets
  • Pillows
  • Knives
  • Broken items
  • Hangers
  • Food
  • Bikes/bike helmets.

How can I donate.

It couldn’t be easier! Just bag up all unwanted items that match with the list above and bring them to a British Heart Foundation collection box near you! To avoid single use plastic, it’s recommended that you use your own bags and boxes to transport items. However, if this isn’t possible you can pick up some bags located next to both CUSU placed collection boxes.

You will find one collection box at Student Reception on the first floor of The Hub. We recommend taking advantage of the lifts if you have lots of heavy items to bring!

If you are closer to CU Coventry on Mile Lane, there is a collection box in reception there too.

Just place all items in the box…and we’ll take care of the rest!

Boxes will be in place until Thursday 30th June.

So don’t delay! Declutter and do some good today!
