Your SU is run by students. These students are elected during our annual leadership elections and by-elections.

We offer a wide variety of roles, some full-time and some part-time, meaning you can complete your studies alongside holding a leadership role. One thing they all have in common is that they represent you!

Five key steps when nominating yourself for a role

Each year we hold an annual leadership election where students can put themselves forward for a position, vote and make change for the upcoming academic year. This year we’re electing four full-time and nine part-time roles. Before nominating yourself for a role, it’s important to familiarise yourself with the rules and guidance that the elections will follow.

To put yourself forward for a full-time role, you must have current student status until at least 14 February 2025. You must either be in your final year of study and have completed your degree by August 2025 at the latest or be prepared to take a year out of study.

To put yourself forward for a part-time position, you must have current student status until at least 1 January 2026.

It can be a challenge to pick between roles, but we’re here to help! We’ve created a helpful tool that matches you to the best role for you, based on your answers to a few questions. Once you’ve taken the quiz, make sure you still read the job description on the role details page so you understand all the responsibilities of the role.

Once you have picked a role, you will need to prepare a manifesto which explains why students should vote for you. Your manifesto should contain five distinct points outlining what you’d aim to achieve in the role if you are successfully elected. You will also need to upload a suitable photograph of yourself.

If you’ve checked you’re eligible, found your role and uploaded your manifesto and photo, you are ready to submit your nomination! To do so, head to the Leadership Elections 2025 page and complete the process. If you are unsure about anything, visit the nomination support hub to find further information before submitting, but make sure you don’t miss the deadline of Tuesday 28 January!
