What would you like to achieve in your role this year?

I would like to lead positive changes in the university with the Student’s Union that is informed by LGBTQIA+ students themselves. I would like to continue events such as Queer Words and establish new ones that enable the community to increase their voice, presence, and enjoyment on campus. Currently, it can still feel isolating and unsafe for LGBTQIA+ folk and I think increased visibility and bringing a wider sense of community will help to establish better connections and representation for students.

Activities

Every year we celebrate LGBT+ History Month, celebrating the history of gay rights and raising awareness and promoting equality and diversity. Previously we have hosted queer words, drag nights, panel talks and film screenings. If you would like to get involved in the planning or have an idea for LGBT+ History month (February 2024), please contact the LGBTQIA+ Students Community Engagement Lead or email community.su@coventry.ac.uk.

If you have an idea of an activity you’d like to run for the community, we can support you!
