Refugee and Migrant Support

There is a variety of support available to students who are refugees, asylum seekers, or economic migrants.

Coventry

Coventry City CouncilCoventry City Council’s Migration Team aim to welcome you to Coventry through providing all necessary information via their online platform. There is support for Asylum Seekers, support for Refugees, and support for Migrants.

Coventry Refugee and Migrant Centre – aims to welcome and empower asylum seekers and support refugees and other migrants in Coventry to rebuild their lives and achieve their potential through advice and practical help. They offer both front-line support, working with partner services to meet all emergency needs, and long-term support such as English classes and employment support to help with integration into the Coventry community.

Central England Law Centre – Provide legal advice and support, including specific Asylum and Immigration Law.

Carriers of Hope Coventry – provide practical support, opportunities for development, and ensure access to basic necessities for Asylum seekers, Refugees and Migrant families. You must be referred to Carriers of Hope for support, which we can support with.

Scarborough

Refugee Council – A charity working with refugees and people seeking asylum in the UK. They provide crisis advice, mental health counselling, and practical support for integration into a new community.

You can find a service, contact a service team, and find information, resources, tools and reports for refugees and asylum in the UK.

North Yorkshire Citizens Advice and Law Centre – Can offer Asylum and immigration support and advice, including applying for settled status or residency, information about dealing with visas, dealing with the Home office and citizenship. Contact their free Adviceline on 0808 278 7900, email them, or complete a client referral form with a local organisation that is already supporting you.

London

Refugee Actionthe London Asylum Crisis Project provides advice, casework and advocacy to asylum seekers on how to access asylum support (accommodation and/ or financial support) in London.

You can refer yourself or someone else to the service by contacting them directly.

Migrant Londoners Hub – Provides information to those seeking refugee, asylum or other immigration status in London to ensure that you are informed of your rights. You can also find links to a range of other support available to you.

Support for students at all campuses:

British Red Cross – The British Red Cross provide services and support for refugees and people seeking asylum. They offer emergency support, one-to-one help, casework, and specialist services. Contact your local refugee service here.

Government Support - You can find out about how to seek protection or asylum on the GOV.UK website. You can also find what support is available to you if you are seeking asylum here.

Law Centres Network – There are a series of law centres across the UK which offer free legal advice regarding asylum and immigration. Find your local law centre here or by searching by postcode.

Citizens Advice – You can search for your local branch of Citizens Advice here and can also find a range of self-help resources regarding immigration on their website here.

Migrant Help – Provide independent advice and guidance to assist asylum seekers in the UK to progress through the asylum process, including advice provided in your local language. Call their free asylum helpline on 0808 8010 503.

Right To Remain – Have an online toolkit with information to help guide you through the UK immigration and asylum system.

Ukraine Student Support

From 1st August 2022, any student from Ukraine granted leave under the Ukraine Family Scheme, the Homes for Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme, or the Ukraine Extension Scheme is entitled to a reduction in fees to bring them in line with UK fee rates. This is available for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses across Coventry University Group.

It will be automatically applied to any eligible students following completion of a fee assessment. Find award details and eligibility here.
