We are a charity dedicated to improving the lives of students across the Coventry University Group.
Believe it or not we have not always been known as the Students' Union or even Coventry University Students' Union.
Our history starts back in the 1960's as the Students' Union at Lanchester College of Technology. In 1971 the college was merged with Coventry Art School and Rugby College of Higher Education. The Students' Unions were also merged into one as the Students' Union at the newly formed Lanchester Polytechnic.
In 1989 the government passed the Education Act which enabled Polytechnics to become Universities and so Lanchester Polytechnic became Coventry University in 1992. At this time Students' Union became Coventry University Students' Union and was still part of the University.
The government made changes to the Charities Act in 2006 which meant that Students' Unions would start to become registered charities. In December 2010 your Students' Union became a charity and company limited by gaurentee meaning that all the money we make goes back into the services we offer our members, you the students of Coventry University.
This brings us to today were we are still working to enhance the experience of all students at Coventry University Group through the various services we offer.
