Global Majority Students

This community is for students that are Black, Asian, dual-heritage and/or students who have been racialised as ‘ethnic minorities’. We aim to offer a safe space to socialise and to meet other students with similar lived experiences and to bring positive change to their university experiences.

Community Engagement Lead
Sana Cheruvallil

What would you like to achieve in your role this year?
This year, I hope to cultivate a community where Global Majority students feel a genuine sense of belonging and confidence in sharing their stories. Through creating spaces for dialogue, connection, and celebration, I want to help build greater understanding and appreciation of the diverse identities that make our university unique. Having spent the last four years at the university through my Master's and now my final year of a PhD, I understand both the opportunities and challenges that come with university life. I want to be approachable, supportive, and someone who will genuinely listen. If something matters to you, it matters to me, and I'll do my best to help and advocate for you. Most importantly, I believe that we succeed by lifting each other up. While we'll take on important issues together, I also want our community to be a space where we can connect, celebrate, and enjoy the journey along the way.

Activities

Every year we celebrate Black History Month, acknowledging and celebrating the beauty and power of black culture. From fashion shows to panel talks we host a range of exciting events for everyone to get involved in. If you would like to be involved in planning or suggest an idea for Black History Month (October), please contact the Global Majority Students Community Engagement Lead or email community.su@coventry.ac.uk.

If you have an idea of an activity you’d like to run for the community, we can support you!

If you have an idea for a campaign you’d like to run, we can help you deliver your campaign!

Celebrate Black history Month

Every October we celebrate Black history Month and recognise the contributions made by Black people across history. The month is a specific opportunity to prioritise celebrating the campaigns, activism, events and significant contributions to improve the lives of Black people across history.
