Square One isn’t just another venue on campus. It’s your space, run by your Students’ Union. Whether you’re part of a society, sports club, student group or simply want to bring people together, Square One gives you a space to put on the events you want. From society socials and sports club events to live performances, parties, fundraisers, showcases and ticketed events, we’re here to help you make it happen.

Your Venue. Your Events.

We want Square One to be a space where student groups can do more than just hold an event. It's a place where you can build your community, try something new and put your ideas into action.

Societies and sports clubs can benefit from:

  • Free venue hire for events, socials and everything in between, subject to availability
  • 10% bar revenue kickback on drinks and snacks sold during your event
  • Event planning and operational support from the Square One team
  • Access to venue AV and technical equipment to help bring your event to life
  • Additional income opportunities through ticketed events, fundraising and other activities

Make Square One your space

Events don’t have to be just for society or club members. You can use Square One for smaller events and socials exclusively for your members or open your event up to the wider student community and sell tickets.

Whether you're planning a regular social for your members, putting on a big end of year event, organising a fundraiser or trying something completely new, we'll work with you to make it happen.

You don't need to know everything about running an event before you get started. The Square One team can help you plan your event, discuss layouts, work out what equipment you need and support you with the operational side of running it.

Get 10% from bar sales

One of the biggest benefits of bringing your event to Square One is the opportunity to earn money for your society or sports club.

Your group receives 10% of the bar revenue generated during your event, giving you a simple way to generate additional income while bringing your members together.

The more your event generates through the bar, the more your group earns back.

Throughout the academic year, we'll keep track of the total 10% bar revenue kickback generated by each society and sports club hosting events at Square One. At the end of the academic year, the group with the highest total kickback will win:

  • An exclusive end of year celebration at either Square One or The Place at Westwood Heath Clubhouse.
  • A complimentary buffet for all attending society or sports club members.
  • One welcome drink for every attendee.

So, the more you use Square One, the more your group can earn and the closer you’ll get to winning the end of year prize!

Societies and Sports Clubs

If you're an official SU society or sports club, speak to your coordinator about your event first.

Societies and sports clubs have priority access to Square One, so your coordinator can help you discuss your event and secure a booking before approaching the venue team directly. They can also help you understand how your event can make use of the benefits available to your group, including free venue hire and the 10% bar revenue kickback.

Other Students and Student Groups

If you're a student or part of a student group that isn't an official SU society or sports club, you can contact the Square One team directly.

When contacting us, it would be helpful to include:

  • Your preferred event date
  • Type of event
  • Expected number of guests
  • Preferred room layout
  • Any staging or technical requirements
  • Catering or bar requirements
  • Any other specific requirements

Venue Information

The Courtyard Bar is open Monday to Friday, 10am to 2pm, during term time. Outside of these periods, opening times vary depending on events. Please check our listings above for full details.

  • Please bring a valid student ID or photographic ID (passport/driving licence) for entry to evening events.
  • Some events are students only, while others are open to the public – check the event details for confirmation.

Square One is fully accessible, with step free entry via The Hub, accessible toilets, and priority seating available at events. If you have specific access needs, please contact us in advance and we’ll be happy to help.

A wide selection of drinks at student friendly prices is available at the bar. Snacks and soft drinks are always on hand for non drinkers.

By Bus: the nearest stops to Square One are Pool Meadow Bus Station and Gosford Street, both just a short walk away.

By Train: Coventry Rail Station is around a 15 minute walk from Square One. Taxis and buses are available directly outside the station for a quicker connection.

By Car: Square One is based in Coventry city centre, with several car parks nearby including: Gosford Street Car Park (CV1 5DL) and Cox Street Car Park (CV1 5GA)
