Current Bursary Opportunities
We are currently accepting scholarships and bursaries for the 19th May 1961 Charity and The Gittins Family Charitable Trust.
The bursaries are for £1000 per successful student. £800 of this to be paid in February/March, and the final instalment of £200 in May - after you have written a £500 report stating how the bursary has supported you.
The Gittins Family Charitable Trust
10 bursaries of £1000 available to students studying Biomedical Science, Biological and Forensic Science, Nursing, Pharmacology, Human Biosciences plus Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering. Students must be UK full-time undergraduates at Coventry University paying the full tuition fees. To be eligible for this bursary you must not be living at home.

The 19th May 1961 Charity
The 29 May 1961 Charitable Trust was set up by Helen Martin who lived just outside Kenilworth. The money for the trust came from her family shares in Heublein which owned Smirnoff vodka. Helen passed away in 1988.
15 bursaries of £1000 available to UK students studying a STEM subject who are UK full-time undergraduates at Coventry University paying full tuition fees.

Information for Applicants
Please note as part of the bursaries you must agree to the following:
- I will fulfil all attendance requirements
- I will complete all assignment/examination requirements
- I will spend my scholarship on any activities designed to support my study at Coventry University as stated in my original application. (This can include accommodation costs, living expenses, equipment to support studies, resources, attendance at conferences etc.)
- I will attend a presentation event with the funders in April 2026
- I will reply to all emails
- I will write a 500-word report at the end of the year (no final payment without the report).
- If asked, I will participate in publicity activities (photographs/case studies etc.) designed to promote the scholarships/bursaries (students can refuse).
In the event of any of these conditions being breached, payments may be decreased.
In the event of more students applying than places available, the following criteria will be used to prioritise applicants:
- Students living in POLAR group 4 quintiles 1 and 2
- Students with a family income of £40,000 or less (proof will be required – if working, a P60, benefits statement from Department of Work and Pensions if not working, statement from pension provider if retired). All information is deleted once seen.
- Students who are first in their family to attend university
- Students from single parent families
- Final year students
- Students with disabilities
- Students who were in care or who are estranged from family
- Students not in receipt of other scholarships
