About the event

This interactive workshop gives you the knowledge, confidence and practical tools to understand climate change, your own carbon footprint and the actions that make a real difference.

During the two-week training, you will explore the science behind climate change, how everyday activities create emissions and what individuals, universities and organisations can do to reduce their impact. It’s designed for anyone – no science background needed, just curiosity and a willingness to get involved.

To achieve this globally recognised qualification, you need to attend two online sessions (12 October 10am-12pm and 19 October 2-4pm), complete the self-directed content and submit an action plan.

By attending, you’ll gain the following skills, knowledge and behaviours for your future career:

Skills:

  • Calculating and interpreting your personal carbon footprint.
  • Identifying high‑impact actions to reduce emissions in daily life.
  • Communicating about climate change clearly and confidently with peers, family and future employers.
  • Setting realistic, meaningful personal pledges and action plans.

Knowledge:

  • The basics of climate science, greenhouse gases and global warming.
  • How everyday choices (travel, energy, food, shopping) contribute to carbon emissions.
  • The role of universities, organisations and policy in tackling climate change.
  • Key concepts such as net zero, carbon footprints, scope 1–3 emissions and climate justice.

Behaviours:

  • More intentional, low‑carbon choices in everyday life (e.g. travel, energy use, consumption).
  • Willingness to discuss climate issues constructively and challenge misinformation.
  • Proactive approach to identifying and implementing climate‑positive actions.
  • Increased confidence to act on climate concerns rather than feeling overwhelmed or disengaged.

Through group activities, discussion and reflection, you’ll identify realistic changes you can make in your studies, work and personal life.
