Grievances

Being a committee member means you will be working with other individuals and as a team. This means there will be times when you have disagreements, differing expectations of one another or would like to change how you work as a committee.

Where possible we prefer to resolve these concerns within the activities department and can support you as a committee having meaningful conversations, review our processes or requirements, support with committee engagement and more.

If you would like support with any of the above, please contact societies.su@coventry.ac.uk.

Making a complaint

All students, members, committee members can make a complaint to the Students’ Union. As committee members you can make complaints relating to your society, societies, members etc. You may also be advised to make a complaint during informal solutions. When you make a complaint, we follow the SU complaints policy, and your complaint is normally assigned to an investigator (this will not be your coordinator).

Disciplinaries

If you, your society committee or members behave inappropriately or in any way that breaches the code of conduct and student group regulations you have agreed to abide by you may be subject to a disciplinary.

Disciplinary action is typically determined by a disciplinary panel. It is important to us that you are supported and provided with information and resources to carry out your role(s). If you feel you cannot carry out your role or believe you or your committee have breached the code of conduct in any way, please identify this to staff so that we may review and take action to resolve risk.

Feedback

All committee members can provide the SU with feedback on your committee experience. The Activities team will send out a committee satisfaction survey twice per academic year, we also encourage you to complete the all-student survey each academic year.

Alongside these you have the option to email societies.su@coventry.ac.uk at any time and utilise the teams' channels for societies. You also have a dedicated staff member you can book in with to provide feedback and discuss. We operate an open-door policy, during office hours please feel free to approach us in person.

Minimum committee expectations

As committee members we expect at minimum, you to have completed your training, engage with the support offered and carry out your role. If you do not meet our minimum expectations, we will assign you actions to complete such as completing training, attending workshops, providing your reflections etc. If you struggle to engage or are having difficulties completing any assigned tasks, please notify us as soon as possible.
