Mandatory Training

All committee members must complete mandatory online training. This is an online training module and takes approximately 30 minutes, but it can be completed at your own pace. There may also be some in person training days throughout the year that you can attend also. Failure to complete the training may result in you being removed from your role, please make us aware if you have any concerns or difficulties completing the training.

Development for you and your society

Whilst you’re delivering events, running campaigns and exploring your society opportunities it’s important to keep in mind what you and the rest of the committee want to get out of running your society. You’ll be able to complete development plans and set goals for yourself, your society and get support to achieve them. Consider what you personally want to achieve being a part of a society. Do you want to get specific skills? Log a certain number of volunteering hours? Do you have a team target to get the highest number of members a committee has had? Want to host a specific event? Setting development goals helps to do this.

You can book a development plan meeting with your coordinator at any time on our booking link. We’ve built a template Development Goal document you can use at any point in the year to help steer what goals you’d like to set.

Optional Training

Throughout the year you may be asked or offered the opportunity to attend additional training, conferences, workshops, and more. These are all optional unless instructed otherwise by SU staff. Platforms such as LinkedIn Learning are also available through your university email address.

Keep an eye on committee member events and opportunities that are available to you, Use the suggestions form at the end of the page to recommend training you would like us to consider facilitating. If you’re qualified to deliver training also, don’t hesitate to get in touch with the team to arrange opportunities for you to keep this skill active.

Phoenix+

As a committee member you volunteer your time to lead the society. We enrol you onto the Phoenix+ Programme when you start. We track how you engage with the role, What evidence we can provide the university and get your volunteering role added onto your Higher Education Academic Record (HEAR). This means that when you complete your course and receive confirmation of your completed studies, your society committee role is included in your HEAR.
