A statement from the Officer team on behalf of the Students' Union.

Your Students’ Union is deeply concerned by the recent escalation of events in Iran and the wider region.

We recognise that this could be a distressing and uncertain time for many members of our community, particularly those with personal, family or cultural connections to Iran and the Middle East. Some students may be worried about the safety of loved ones, be unable to communicate with family due to internet outages, or face financial uncertainty because of the situation.

We understand that the related events, media coverage, and unpredictability can have a significant emotional impact. Our thoughts are with everyone who may be affected.

Support Available

If you are feeling overwhelmed, worried, or simply need someone to talk to, please know that you are not alone.

• You can contact the Students’ Union Advice Service, which offers free, confidential and independent advice and support if the current crisis is affecting your academic work, attendance or assessments or if you are experiencing financial difficulties as a result. To contact the service, please use their online enquiry form.
• The university’s student wellbeing service can provide support for those who need support with their emotional wellbeing, as well as other support. Find out about their services and how to contact them here.

We also encourage everyone in our community to approach conversations about this situation with care, empathy and respect. Times like these can affect people in very different ways, and it is important that we continue to look out for one another.
