As my time as a Part-Time officer has come to an end, I would like to summarise everything that I achieved in my manifesto and how I have helped the students this year.
Fun Learning Together
Back in December, I hosted a Business Quiz with a small group of students. It wasn’t just about winning (although the winners received a prize 😊); it was about getting people together, solving problems, and having a good time while learning new things from a variety of different courses taught in the College of Business and Law. Everyone got involved, and it was a great way to blend networking with something educational.
Skills for the Future
I have conducted over 25 induction talks across different courses and colleges. In these, I talked about the Rep system and its opportunity to build skills such as leadership and communication as well as presenting the wider SU and its opportunities to our students. I have also teamed up with the Talent Team to deliver a placement session for second years, where I shared practical advice and useful CV building tips based on my own placement experience. Additionally, I worked closely with Ad+Vantage placement students, giving them the chance to work with myself and the SU team. They helped me plan and run events, turning their placements into real hands-on leadership experience.
Mental Health and Wellbeing
Wellbeing has been a big focus for all College Officers this year, and we have been doing monthly events for students. I ran a Karaoke Night in January, which was a great experience, where students enjoyed a relaxing and fun environment. I have also helped out with other officers’ events, such as Bingo Nights and Quiz Nights. Throughout the year we have worked together on many occasions, supporting each other and our students.
Green and Sustainable Campus
At the end of May, I hosted a DIY event called TeeCycle: Craft and Create. The event consisted of upcycling old Education Rep t-shirts and turning them into new DIY items, giving them a second use and avoiding waste. It was a fun and creative activity that put sustainability into action.
Ideas Matter
I have been focused on listening to what students are saying and doing something about their ideas. I have successfully chaired over 30 Your Course Conversations, where I worked with academic staff to go over student feedback and find solutions. I have done over 20 interviews to bring in new School and Education Reps and make sure we’ve got Course Reps recruited and trained, collecting feedback from every course. I also helped out at stalls to talk to students face-to-face and get their feedback directly.
On a bigger level, I attended two Governors' meetings and a College Board meeting, where I raised the feedback students brought up during the Course Conversations and through direct conversation – these included assessment problems, timetabling, and other general issues. I have also taken part in the Accountability Panel, where I got to ask full-time officers about their manifesto progress.
I would like to say a big thank you to all the students that helped me achieve all my manifesto objectives and for being such a support system for me and for everyone at the SU.
