Looking for a way to meet new people, build confidence and develop skills that will support your future career? Leading the Sustainability Society could be a brilliant opportunity!
Taking on a society leadership role gives you the chance to shape climate action on campus, plan events and bring people together around an important topic. Sustainability is becoming more important across every industry, so showing that you have led a society, managed responsibilities and worked with others to support climate change can help your CV stand out.
Our Sustainability Society became dormant (an inactive with no current committee managing it) when the previous committee graduated, but you are not alone SU staff will support you and provide training. Adopting a dormant society isn't starting completely from the beginning, whilst it doesn't have any members, it may have an interested list of students, social media, finances and resources already available.
As well as demonstrating your passion for being green, leading a society is a chance to meet like-minded students and create a sense of belonging. It also shows your initiative, commitment and the ability to bring ideas to life. You do not need to know everything about sustainability before getting involved - what matters is that you are interested, willing to learn and ready to help shape the society into something students will enjoy.
