About the event

This interactive workshop helps you understand neurodiversity, communicate more inclusively and create environments where everyone can contribute. You will explore what neurodiversity means, how different thinking and working styles can show up in university life and the workplace, and practical strategies for being a more inclusive peer, teammate and future colleague.

The session is relevant whether you are neurodivergent yourself, work alongside neurodivergent peers or simply want to be part of more inclusive teams. You will leave with clearer language, practical approaches and greater confidence to support inclusion in group work, societies, placements and future employment.

What will we cover?

  • What is neurodiversity? Key terms, common profiles (e.g. autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, Tourette’s) and the strengths and challenges that can come with different ways of thinking, learning and communicating.
  • Barriers and inclusion: How environments, expectations and assumptions can create barriers for neurodivergent students and staff, and how small adjustments can make a big difference.
  • Inclusive communication: Practical strategies for clear, respectful communication, giving and receiving feedback, and working effectively across different styles.
  • Teamwork and collaboration: How to share responsibilities and create psychologically safe spaces where people can be themselves.
  • Employability and professional practice: How neuro-inclusive practice connects to workplace expectations, reasonable adjustments and the skills employers value in diverse teams.

Who should attend?

  • Students who want to understand neurodiversity and be more inclusive peers and teammates.
  • Students involved in societies, committees, peer mentoring, volunteering or leadership roles.
  • Anyone interested in equality, diversity and inclusion, disability awareness or accessible practice.
  • Students considering careers in education, health, social care, HR, management, tech, creative industries or any sector where inclusive teamwork matters.
  • Skills, knowledge and behaviours
