About the event

In this Students' Mind workshop, you’ll learn how to recognise when a friend might be struggling, how to start a supportive conversation and when and how to signpost to the right help.

Using realistic scenarios and group discussion, you’ll practise listening skills, explore boundaries and confidentiality, and build confidence to look after your mates while looking after yourself.

Skills:

  • Active listening; open, non‑judgemental questioning
  • Signposting to appropriate support
  • Recognising warning signs of distress.

Knowledge:

  • Common student wellbeing challenges
  • Limitationa of peer support
  • Available university and external support services.

Behaviours:

  • More confident, compassionate conversations about wellbeing
  • Appropriate boundary‑setting
  • Proactive help‑seeking for self and others.

This session is about being a supportive friend, not a counsellor.
