Academic Staff Mentors

Each academic society has an associated academic staff mentor, these are individuals that have volunteered to support our academic societies on subject level experience and knowledge. Academic mentors are usually individuals who are part of the teaching staff for the course or courses related to your society.

What can you ask from an academic staff mentor?

Since your staff mentor is volunteering beyond their primary duties their engagement may vary. It’s important you keep in touch with your mentor and see what they are able to offer in support Here are some of the way’s an academic mentor could support you:

  • Support arranging learning content for a study session
  • Support getting access to specialist spaces
  • Suggesting or sourcing guest speakers
  • Being able to provide subject level advice and guidance specific to your society
  • Supporting or attending events (dependent on the staff mentor's capacity)

How do you find out who your staff mentor is?

Your coordinator will keep a log of which academic staff are registered with your society, you can get this in your society teams' channel, and you’ll be updated if your staff mentor changes.

We recognise some staff go above and beyond to support your societies, but we may not know they do this. We want to support all academic staff mentors in their capacity to support you and can keep them informed of our staff team, processes and any changes as well as answer any questions they may have.

You can register a staff mentor you’re working with by dropping us an email at societies.su@coventry.ac.uk or adding a post into your society teams' channel and we’ll add them to our records to include them in core meetings and planning.
