Grant funding

Getting income for your society is the vision, we want your society to be financially sustainable to be able to run the events and initiatives you, future committees and members want to do. This page covers some of the ways you can source income for your society.

Two people looking surprised at something.

Grant Funding

All affiliated societies are eligible to apply for up to £200 of Grant funding per academic year.

This funding is offered directly by the Students Union. The funding can be used for society development e.g. resources, marketing materials etc or for your events.

The success of grant allocation is dependent on the quality of your application, Please be specific with what you are looking to use the budget for, how it will impact your society and why.

If you’re struggling to break even for your society finances in general or for your events please speak to your coordinator so we can see what alternative income options may be available for your society.

Start up funding

All new societies are automatically allocated a £50 start up fund when they create the society, have had the committee members complete training and purchased their membership. This is to help sourcing promo materials and hosting your first Give It A Go event with the intention of meeting the affiliation criteria.

You do not need to apply for this grant; it will be allocated when you’ve completed your training and got your membership.

Adopted societies are not eligible for the start-up fund as they have previously had a budget code and should be in a positive balance.

Academic Societies

Academic societies are eligible to receive funding based on the education and course-based events you host for your academic cohort. This could be things like hosting an event during course hour, collaborating with your school rep. Find out more about the Academic Society fund here.
