It is good to post regularly on social media, every 1-2 weeks is a good baseline. You should plan your events and subsequent posts at the start of every semester based on what you want to achieve (e.g. higher engagement, showcasing work and collaborations)

Activities and Events
Planning and leading events are a huge part of your role. Most students will join your society with a minimum expectation for what they can get for their memberships. You can host events, projects and campaigns as a society. If you’re stuck for ideas on what to host ask your members what they would like to see from your society.
Finances
Managing your society’s finances is an important role, this is why there are specific processes and roles in place for financial management. When you think of finances you should also consider item and resource values for anything within your society’s inventory. A Societies budget is managed by different committees with different aims each year.
Guest Speakers and External Guests
Societies are able to bring external guests, attendees and speakers to your events. Getting an external guest in can add value and a range of opinions, experience and help you enhance the purpose of your events. Whether they are presenting as a speaker at an event or you are inviting them to attend, you need to complete a guest speaker request
Marketing Your Society
Growth and development of your society can vary but there are some helpful tools and top tips on how you can promote your society, What to include and when to do it. In 2025 we surveyed where students want to see information posted from their society: Instagram was the top choice followed on by AULA, WhatsApp, in Lectures, In person, Fliers and posters, tik Tok, Then Facebook.
Merchandise
Getting Merch is both an excellent source of income and a great way of promoting your society. We understand there’s an upfront cost to get stock and will always support you to make sound financial decisions surrounding Merchandise.
SU Resources
We have resources within our team and across societies that you can book out and use. The SU also has some general resources you can request. We want to make it as easy for you to access our resources as possible. Most of our resources are stored in the society storage rooms in the George Eliot building, Book things out when you need to use them, please report any damages or breakages to us so we can fix or replace. Some resources such as electronics or large items may be kept elsewhere.
