Hi folks,

February is LGBTQIA+ History Month. This is a time of the year for members of the community and allies to come together to remember some of the prominent figures and movements that stood before us and made changes so that we can live freely and openly as ourselves in the current day.

For some members, such as transgender and non-binary individuals, there is a lot of improvement still to be made. It is important as ever to remember that this community still faces a lot of prejudice and backlash within society.

Your Student’s Union and I have been planning some exciting events and activities for you to attend and get involved with. The first event will be on the 9th of February, and we have Wren James, author, and writer on the Heartstopper TV series, coming in to lead a writing workshop! Book a free ticket here.

We also have articles highlighting some fantastic LGBTQIA+ media and representations to engage with such as books, films and tv shows.

If you have an idea for an event or campaign for this month or any time of the year, visit the LGBTQIA+ community page to submit an idea here. We would like to support you in making these ideas happen!

I am looking forward to celebrating this month with you all and meeting you at some of the events we are hosting.

Warmest wishes,

Jack
