"You have the power to make a difference".

My name is Mohammed Usman Asghar BSC Mental health student nurse from Coventry University and I hope to be your next Welfare Officer!

"There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn't".

My decision to run for Welfare Officer was driven by my strong commitment to improving the welfare of all students. As your Welfare Officer, and with the cooperation of each and every student, we can have a positive impact on the holistic wellbeing of our students.

The following are my three main objectives:

A mental health awareness program and mental health support for all students.

Fair and equal opportunities for all.

The importance of educating students about sexual consent and combating sexual harassment on campus. How can we break the taboo surrounding it?

Aim

As a Welfare Officer, my aim is to run campaigns that raise public awareness about mental health through a variety of means, including open mic nights, social events, and forums for discussion and exchange.
My goal as a mental health student is to learn the skills that are necessary to facilitate positive mental health. In addition, I want to research progressive beliefs to help people in their lives. This is my passion. I intend to approach this position with perseverance and dedication and I will dedicate myself to this position without compromise.

Mental Health App

My second proposal is to implement an app that students can use when they require mental health assistance. The purpose of this is to allow them to submit any issues they may be experiencing and receive assistance as soon as possible. The app could also be used daily, so students could keep track of their mental health - updating it with their mood and habits on a daily basis.

The purpose of this approach would be to recognize and enhance the mental health of students.

Equal Opportunities

Providing every student with the opportunity to succeed is my number one priority. I will ensure equal opportunity for all students by considering a number of factors, including race, sexual orientation, gender, age, disability, and religion.

Consent versus sexual harassment.

Sexual violence is a widespread issue on university campuses. Despite the fact that consent is understood to be important,it is often taboo to discuss it, and consent may be negotiated in a complex manner.

In recent decades, there has been an increased recognition of the importance of improving our understanding of how sexual consent is understood and negotiated. However, research in this area is still in its infancy.

Particularly, young adults, a group significantly more likely to be victims of sexual assault, need to have an understanding of how they negotiate sexual consent in a variety of different cultural contexts.

As my goal, I would like to obtain information regarding how consent is enacted and understood on campus. I would then use that information to formulate campaigns that aim to reduce the incidence of sexual assault on college campuses.

I intend to open up the taboo conversations around sex at university by conducting surveys, hosting forums, and facilitating workshops. It is clear that there is a huge culture surrounding sex, but it is highly stigmatized. It is my aim to encourage all students, regardless of gender, to feel comfortable communicating freely with their sexual partners. This will facilitate easier discussions regarding consent as well as reduce harassment and sexual assault incidents.

In addition, I will take the time to listen carefully to the needs of the student body, so that I can formulate my missions based on your needs.
