My name is Emmanuella Akatah and I am currently studying Applied Psychology at CU Scarborough. I have been a student here since 2021 and have had the opportunity to serve as a student ambassador, president of the international student society, and delegate for the NUS conference. As someone who cares about the well-being and success of all students and wants to advocate for a beyond average student experience, this is why I have decided to run for campus officer.

My main goal as campus officer would be to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all students, regardless of their backgrounds and circumstances. Here are some of the problems I've noticed on our campus and how I plan to address them:

International Student Support: I believe that our international students deserve the best possible experience while studying at CU Scarborough. As campus officer, I will prioritize their needs by working with the university to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for them. I will advocate for resources and support that will help them settle in and adapt to their new surroundings. Additionally, I will ensure that they receive proper and efficient assistance when they face difficulties concerning their studies.

Support for Students with Dependents: Balancing academic and personal responsibilities can be a challenging task, especially for students with dependents. As campus officer, I will work to ensure that these students have access to the resources and support they need to succeed. This may include advocating for flexible class schedules, on-campus childcare, and other measures that can make their lives easier.

Advocacy for Disabled Students: I believe that all students should have equal access to education, regardless of their circumstances . As campus officer,I will advocate for students with disabilities including those with disabilities that may not be visible, to ensure that they receive the support they need to excel .

A Better Student Life for All: I strongly believe that a strong and vibrant student community is essential for a positive university experience. As campus officer, I will work to support and organize events and campaigns that bring students from different spaces together and promote a sense of community. I will use my knowledge from assisting with various YOURSU events and from creating and running a society to plan activities that cater to students' diverse interests.

In conclusion, my goal as campus officer is to advocate for the needs and rights of all students. By creating a more inclusive and supportive environment, I believe we can create a better university experience for everyone. I am committed to promoting equal access to resources and support and fostering a sense of community among our students. With your vote, I am confident that we can make a positive difference together.
