LGBTQIA+ History Month 2023 – Behind The Lens

 

Designed by a student at The Swan School as part of the annual national LGBT+ History Month badge competition.

 

LGBTQIA+ History Month Theme

February is LGBTQIA+ History Month and the theme for 2023 is Behind The Lens. This celebrates LGBTQIA+ peoples’ contribution to cinema and film from behind the lens, including directors, cinematographers, screen writers, producers, animators, costume designers, special effects, make-up artists, lighting directors, musicians, choreographers and beyond.

 

Events and Campaigns

The overall aims of LGBTQIA+ History Month is to raise awareness of issues, reflect on the past, educate others, and celebrate the culture of the LGBTQIA+ community. Your Students’ Union has a jam-packed programme of events & campaigns to get involved with this month, including screenings of LGBTQIA+ themed films & documentaries, Queer Words (spoken word poetry event), craftivism, and workshops. LGBTQIA+ Society

Join the LGBTQIA+ Society who aim to provide a safe space for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, and other gender, sexual, and romantic minorities on campus. They meet every Tuesday 6-8pm in Meeting Room 1 & 2 in The Hub and run various activities including board game nights, origami nights, and film nights. LGBTQIA+ Research

You can also take part in research funded by Coventry University and in collaboration with Your Students’ Union. This is investigating how LGBTQ+ inclusive universities across the Midlands are experienced and perceived to be, and how this can impact Undergraduate students' academic success, sense of belonging and satisfaction. Visit Your SU website here to sign up

  • Stonewall

A charity that stands for lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer, questioning and ace (LGBTQ+) people everywhere. They have been campaigning for over 30 years for transformative change with different social issues such as same-sex marriage, LGBTQ-inclusive teaching, protection from discrimination, and end of Section 28 in Scotland, England and Wales.   • Mermaids

  • LGBT Foundation

A charity that delivers advice, support, and information services to lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans communities. They have a wellbeing hub which can be accessed here and a phone line (03453303030) for advice, support and information.
