Welcome back to Your Students’ Union to our old members and Welcome to our new starters! We can’t wait to see all of you all this Summer Term and support with you with your skills journey. Your Skills Team has lots of opportunities coming up this term that you can get involved in all of which are free. We want to take a moment to share the exciting events, workshops, and activities taking place this term to help boost your skills! 

The Skills Team has lot of events and opportunities for you to get involved with. This is not only an excellent way to develop your skills whilst studying but you can also make some new friends. 

To have a chance to meet us and see how to get involved why not come along to one of our Network and Nibbles the first of which is taking place on Tuesday 16th May 11am – 1pm in The Courtyard. At these sessions you will have a great chance to:  

• Find out how to sign up for a Skills Workshop or Networking Event 

• Find out more about our reward and recognition programs (Badges or Leadership Award) 

• Find out about our Volunteering opportunities  

• Have a chance to meet new people

Your Skills Event 

This term you will have lots of opportunities to engage with us at our events, workshops and the activities, which you can get involved with for free. These events are a great chance to develop new skills and meet new people.  

Navigating Networking – Tuesday 23rd May 11am – 12pm – There is no one rule or way to network, in this session you will learn more about networking such as the Do’s and Don’ts and learn about opportunities where you can make connections that can lead to your dream role.  

Mind The Gap – Thursday 8th June 11am – 12:30pm – This workshop is an ideal opportunity for you to understand and develop your soft skills. At this workshop you will be able to reflect on your skill set and learn about opportunities that are available which can help you develop. Attending workshops such as this one can help make you graduate-ready!  

Alumnight – 15th June 5:30pm – 7pm -This is of one of most popular events and is a great networking opportunity where you meet Alumni of Coventry University and find out how they made the most of their time whilst studying as well as learning what to expect after graduation. You will also get a chance to meet our Your Skills experts who can give you advice and share opportunities.  

Leadership Award  

Applications for the Leadership Award are open for the Summer Term. Your SU Leadership Award recognises your involvement within extracurricular activities whilst studying. Applying for the Award can help you improve your CV and make you a standout candidate! The Leadership Award can recognise many roles such as: 

• Elected Officer or Candidate 

• Volunteering  

• Sports or Society Member  

• Student Mentor  

• Placement Student  

• Being a Rep  

• Plus, many more roles!! 

You can showcase the skills you have develop and display in a format that can be digitally viewed by potential employers.  

There will be 2 workshops taking place this term on Thursday 18th May 3pm – 4pm and Tuesday 27th June 11am – 12:30pm. This is an opportunity to find out more about the Award, how to apply whilst making you more employable. To find out more about the Leadership Award click here.

Digital Badges  

Digital Badges recognises your achievements which you can share with future employers as can easily be displayed on your LinkedIn. You can achieve Badges by engaging with Your SU activity such as Volunteering, BSL, or Networking and if you successfully engage you can receive a Badge as a result.
