What is the Housing Fair?

Figuring out living arrangements as a student can be so complicated and confusing. Who do I want to live with? Where do I want to live? What type of place do I want to live in? How am I supposed to manage living costs and pay my rent? Can my landlord really do that? If you’ve ever found yourself asking any of these questions then the Housing Fair is for you. Your Students’ Union Advice Service will be bringing many of the major players in student accommodation across Coventry together in one place, making it easier than ever for you to find out everything you need to know.

Why should I go to the Housing Fair?

The complexities of accommodation and contracts plus the current cost of living crisis means that it’s more important than ever that you have the knowledge and confidence to make informed choices about where and how you live as a student. Taking the time to explore all options and make sure you have all the information you need to do this will help prevent you from being stuck with people you don’t want to live with, stuck in a place you don’t feel happy or comfortable in and could even prevent you running into troubles with rent or terms of contract…all of which could seriously impact your studies and general happiness at university.

At the Housing Fair you will be able to:

  1. Explore your accommodation options: come and chat face-to-face with some of the major providers of student accommodation across Coventry. Find out all about the huge variety of options available to you so you can compare and make the future choices that are right for you.
  2. Get your contracts checked: rental contracts are important legal documents that bind you into all sorts of agreements that you have to stick to once your signature is on that dotted line. Unfortunately, they can also be very long and difficult to understand. Your Advice Service will be there at the Housing Fair to look over any contracts you have and explain anything you aren’t sure about so you can make sure you know what you’re signing. Even if you’re not at the contract signing stage yet, you can always have a chat about what to expect and what to look out for when entering into a contract with a landlord, so you'll be ultra-prepared for when it does happen.
  3. Find out more about Your Advice Service: we are here to help you with anything related to housing, finances and cost of living. Have a question for us or just want to find out more about what we do? Come say hey!
  4. Get support from other organisations: the Housing Fair isn’t just about accommodation providers and student services. We have lots of other organisations coming along to offer you support. For example, your friendly campus Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) will be there to offer advice and resources for keeping your home safe. Why not drop in and see who else is there for you?

When and where is this Housing Fair?

You’ll find the Housing Fair across the ground floor of The Hub, 10am-3pm, on Tuesday 30 January.

We can’t wait to see you there!
